Community Supports

The indiviiduals with intellectual or developmental disabilities served by the Arc of Steuben do not live in a vacuum. They have families and communities who care for, love and provide support for them.

Our Community Supports programs return the favor.
Our programs will:

  • Help families cope with crisis.
  • Teach children and adolescents how to cope with living with a loved one with a developmental disability.
  • Provide short-term care so families can take a break without worrying about a loved one.
  • Help families and people with developmental disabilities pay housing bills and maintain their independence.

Crisis Support

Crisis support is available for individuals with a developmental disability who live with a family, a roommate or independently. We’ll help resolve a stressful situation with help in the person’s home, community, school, or day program. Our trained professionals respond quickly and help develop a plan to resolve the situation. We can complete behavioral assessments and develop plans to be implemented by families and caregivers.

Respite Programs

Arc of Steuben can provide temporary relief for caregivers of people with developmental disabilities. We’ll care for your loved one at home, during the day or evening to give you a chance to run errands, have a night out, attend an event or even take a vacation.

Financial Assistance

Financial assistance is available to individuals and families for out-of-pocket expenses for caregiver services and supplies. Reimbursement is available to individuals with a developmental disability living independently or with a spouse, sibling, or significant other. We can help with housing costs including rent, utilities, security deposits and other housing expenses.

The Family Reimbursement Program

assists the family caring for the family member with the developmental disability with increased expenses, enhancng family stability and preserving family unity. Click here for Family Reimbursement Guidelines.

Teens Recreation

Our Teens Recreation program offers a variety of activities for teens in an environment that mixes information with recreation in an atmosphere where teens can discuss their concerns with each other and with our staff. These young people will have opportunities to have fun and form meaningful relationships.

Activities are free and range from bowling to events and outings to movies and picnics.
