The Arc of Steuben was founded in 1964 by parents advocating for the education of their children, each of whom had a disability. Some of the same parents are still active in the organization today. The commitment of parents and advocates drives our services.
From education, we expanded our services to eventually include residential, habilitation and vocational programs. We have developed a number of business products and services from assembly, packaging, printing, custodial, embroidery and other businesses. And we operate a large network of public transportation open to the community.
All our programs operate around a few basic principles:
The Arc of Steuben, a not-for-profit organization, is a partnership of dedicated people committed to working together to support people with disabilities and their families.
We provide personalized opportunities, advocacy and support so that people realize their goals, dreams, and full potential in a positive atmosphere of encouragement and achievement.
We envision communities in which people of all abilities are welcomed, involved, and valued. By embracing difference, our communities will be unified and stronger.
Individual Success -- We provide opportunities for success using a person-centered approach. The people we support are the first priority.
