Trina Powell was named the Arc of Steuben’s Associate of the Month for December.
Trina, the residence coordinator for the agency’s West Street home, was nominated for the impact she’s had on both the people who live at the home and the staff who work there. She was praised for implementing a positive reinforcement program at West Street.
“The people at the home are really enjoying this incentive and have been working really hard to earn the Eagle Wing coupons,” the nomination letter, written by Sarah Briggs, said. “When they receive so many coupons they can cash them in at the end of the week and choose from a list of prizes.”
Trina, who has been with the agency since 2004, was also recognized for making West Street feel like a home for the people who live there by doing things like organizing a Halloween party for residents and guests.
“The people who live there are starting to come out of their shells and show their true potential,” Sarah's letter said. “Even though Trina has only been at West Street a couple months she has made a lasting impression on the residents and staff there. Trina is an employee who truly models and follows the Arc of Steuben’s mission, vison and values on a daily basis.”
Also nominated for December Associate of the Month was Miranda Trenchard. Miranda serves as a Direct Support Professional at the agency’s Brundage Road home.
The Arc of Steuben was founded in 1964 by a group of parents advocating for the education of their children who had intellectual or developmental disabilities. The agency currently provides more than 1,000 individuals in Steuben and surrounding counties with services, including job-readiness training, community employment, residential, transportation and in-home services.
