Community Supports
The Arc of Steuben provides a variety of services in Steuben and surrounding counties through the Community Supports programs. Trained professionals provide education and support to people with developmental disabilities. A plan is developed with the person and can provide training in areas of personal health and self care, household management, personal financial management, social, recreation, leisure, mobility, communication, home and community safety, and parenting.
The Arc of Steuben operates two site-based programs, called Unlimited Success, in Bath and Wayland. Unlimited Success is a day program for individuals who are not interested in employment. This program provides recreation and leisure activities; training in health related skills; and the development of socialization, communication, safety, personal care, and money management skills. The Unlimited Success program operates Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm.
Respite provides temporary relief for caregivers of people with developmental disabilities. Respite is offered in the person’s home, is available during the day or evening, and is intended to allow families time for errands, vacations, and other planned activities.
Financial assistance is also available to individuals and families through the Community Supports Division. Reimbursement is available to families for out of pocket expenses for caregiver services and supplies. Reimbursement is available to individuals with a developmental disability living independently in the community or with a spouse, sibling, or significant other. This funding can provide a person with financial assistance for housing costs to include rent, utility costs, security deposits, and other housing related expenses.
US Teens is a recreation program for youth ages 10 - 21. This program offers monthly recreation and leisure activities in the community utilizing the resources of the community.
The US Kids program is an after school program for students of the Hornell School District. The program is offered weekly during the school year and is located at the Hornell Intermediate School.
The Arc Lending Library can offer families access to resource material. We have two sites, Woodhull and Bath, where the material is housed. If you are unable to get to either site, we can arrange delivery of the material you are interested in.
